LWPTSA Council’s Recap of the March 22, 2025, Event
This past weekend, PTA leaders and school board members from Bellevue, Mercer Island and Lake Washington School Districts stood shoulder to shoulder with Washington State legislators from the 41st Legislative District—Senator Lisa Wellman, Representative Janice Zahn and Representative My-Linh Thai—united in one purpose: advocating for strong, fully funded public education for every student.
We extend a special thank you to Washington State PTA Advocacy Committee member Dr. Gwen Loosmore for elevating a critical question on the future of public education—sparking thoughtful dialogue and reinforcing the urgency of our mission.
The message from this town hall was clear: Washington’s education system is underfunded, and the gap between what students need and what districts receive is growing. Essential costs such as transportation, curriculum and operations are tied to market realities, but current funding models are stuck in outdated formulas, failing to reflect the actual costs tied to each student.
We need bold, progressive investments in education to meet this moment and ensure every student has the resources they deserve.
