All LWPTSA and WSPTA members are welcome to attend this in-person training.
PTA and the Law is a required class for at least one elected PTA officer on every PTA board each year. This is the most important and useful class of them all, as it will prepare you and your fellow officers to run your PTA with an eye toward the important legal and fiscal requirements in running a nonprofit. PTA and the Law deals with state and federal rules and regulations relevant to running a charitable, tax-exempt, nonprofit corporation in the State of Washington and will explain how these rules impact your PTA.
The LWPTSA Sustainability Committee meets monthly and focuses on raising awareness around sustainable initiatives district-wide, sharing resources, and connecting with one another. Community members are always welcome.
The Sustainability Committee is made up of local chairs at schools across the district. The committee has worked on a range of issues, including food recovery, waste reduction, composting, green cleaning, no-idle zones, herbicide-free schools, and engaging and supporting students in their efforts to combat climate change and create a livable planet.
All local PTA leaders are invited to attend our monthly membership meetings held the first Thursday of the month during the school year. Each year three meetings are held in the evening. This year they are November, January and April.
***PTAs, please bring your wrapped auction baskets to the meeting.***
In-person membership meetings will be held at the Lake Washington School District Resource Center in Redmond Town Center. The LWSD Resource Center address is: 16250 NE 74th St., Redmond WA 98052. Zoom meeting links for our December 2022 and May 2023 online meetings will be available in the Weekly Waves newsletter that all local PTA leaders receive.
LWPTSA Council’s annual auction benefiting our scholarship program is back in person this year! Proceeds from this auction directly fund academic scholarships for graduating seniors as well as professional development for staff members in LWSD.
How does the auction work? Local PTAs and community partners donate fun, themed gift baskets, which will be displayed at the LWSD Resource Center. Silent bidding will take place during LWSD business hours (M-F 7:30 am to 4:30 pm), starting at noon on October 6 and ending during our closing reception on November 3. All community members are invited to come view our baskets and place bids to help support this important program!
Visit our Scholarship Program Auction page for more information.
Legislative Assembly 2022
Planning is now underway for WSPTA’s 44th annual Legislative Assembly, October 15-16, which will be unlike any before it!
At its heart, legislative assembly is about participation. PTA members submit new positions to be added to WSPTA’s policy platform, volunteers on the advocacy committee, resolutions committee and board of directors review them, and delegates at legislative assembly amend, debate and vote on whether to adopt them.
This year, WSPTA is planning for legislative assembly to be a hybrid event for more inclusive participation. Delegates will be able to attend and vote in person at Bellevue College or remotely.
Agenda to be sent via email to local unit E-Prep Chairs.
For the 2022-2023 school year, SEG meetings are back in person at the LWSD Resource Center at 16250 NE 74th Street, Redmond WA 98052 (click for a map). An unstructured networking time will be held from 6:30 to 7 pm, offering an opportunity for members to connect with one another. The formal portion of the meeting will begin at 7 pm.
INTERPRETER OR STUDENT CARE:
If you require interpretation or student care during our meetings, please contact us at specialeducation@lwptsa.net at least 3 business days prior to the meeting you plan to attend so that we can make arrangements for you.
