This is the most important and useful class of them all, as it will prepare you and your fellow officers to run your PTA with an eye toward the important legal and fiscal requirements in running a nonprofit. PTA and the Law deals with state and federal rules and regulations relevant to running a charitable, tax-exempt, nonprofit corporation in the state of Washington, and will explain how these rules impact your PTA. PTA and the Law is a required class for at least one elected officer per PTA each year.

This is the next-to-last statewide offering of this class for 2024-25 so be sure to fulfill your requirement by having an officer attend!

LWSD students and staff are invited to this informal roundtable to learn more about LWPTSA Council’s Scholarship Program for LWSD graduating seniors and certificated staff members. Bring your questions about the program or the applications!

Join us on Tuesday, March 4, at 10 am in the Hughes Room at the LWSD Resource Center. We’ll welcome guests from Go Redmond as we discuss the Redmond SchoolPool program and ways we can reduce traffic congestion and air pollution on our school commutes.

The LWPTSA Sustainability Committee is made up of local sustainability chairs at schools across the district. The committee has worked on a range of issues, including food recovery, waste reduction, composting, green cleaning, no-idle zones, herbicide-free schools, and engaging and supporting students in their efforts to combat climate change and create a livable planet.

Sustainability Committee meetings for 2024-2025 will be a mix of in-person meetings at the LWSD Resource Center (16250 NE 74th St., Redmond WA 98052) as well as online sessions via Zoom.

The diversity of families and communities in LWSD is one of our greatest strengths. Now more than ever, we must stand up for our values of equity, inclusion, belonging and justice. Council’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee meets one Wednesday each month of the school year (with the exception of September and June) at 11:30 am. During the 2024-2025 year, meetings will be held online via Zoom.

DEI chairs and other interested leaders from PTAs and PTSAs in the Lake Washington School District are invited to these monthly meetings to discuss DEI issues and advocacy initiatives that impact our students and families.

All local PTA leaders are invited to attend our monthly membership meetings, typically held the first Thursday of the month during the school year. Meetings will mostly be during daytime hours, with occasional evening meeting times, and will be a mix of in-person and virtual Zoom meetings. At least one elected leader from each of our area PTA/PTSA units is expected to attend each meeting. Additional leaders are always welcomed.

In-person membership meetings will be held at the Lake Washington School District Resource Center in Redmond Town Center. The LWSD Resource Center address is: 16250 NE 74th St., Redmond WA 98052. Zoom meeting links for our online meetings will be available in the Weekly Waves newsletter that all local PTA leaders receive.

As we look toward the end of the PTA year, it is time to start planning for the required year-end financial review. If you haven’t already found your financial review team, it is time to start recruiting. Let WSPTA support you in preparing for the review by joining us March 10 at 12 pm to discuss financial review teams and their duties. This roundtable is aimed at treasurers and financial review teams. For treasurers we will talk about how to prepare your records to hand over to the review team, and members of the financial review committee will have a chance to ask questions about the process of reviewing. There will be a short presentation and then we will open it up for you to ask questions.

This presentation will help participants understand the importance of the nominating committee for your PTA, how to elect them, and methods of organization so they have the tools to help them recruit qualified candidates for leadership positions.

Many legislators will be holding town halls over the next few weeks to check in with their constituents. Legislative advocacy can feel intimidating or confusing at times. We get that and want to support you. Advocacy Committee members are happy to help you prepare for your town hall and answer any questions you might have.
