This is the most important and useful class of them all, as it will prepare you and your fellow officers to run your PTA with an eye toward the important legal and fiscal requirements in running a nonprofit. PTA and the Law deals with state and federal rules and regulations relevant to running a charitable, tax-exempt, nonprofit corporation in the state of Washington, and will explain how these rules impact your PTA. PTA and the Law is a required class for at least one elected officer per PTA each year.

Due to the LWSD’s cancellation of school on Feb. 5, this meeting has been postponed to next month’s meeting date: Wednesday, March 5, from 11:30 am to 1 pm. Register for this meeting here.
We are excited to continue our Courageous Conversations for Diversity and Inclusion series! Join us as we welcome back Ilsa Gowan, an acclaimed speaker and advocate for social justice, who will lead us in an engaging discussion on “Standing Strong for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging.”
Join us for a courageous and powerful conversation on institutional barriers, the urgent needs of our communities, and meaningful ways to support one another.
Council’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee meets one Wednesday each month of the school year (with the exception of September and June) at 11:30 am. During the 2024-2025 year, meetings will be held online via Zoom.
DEI chairs and other interested leaders from PTAs and PTSAs in the Lake Washington School District are invited to these monthly meetings to discuss DEI issues and advocacy initiatives that impact our students and families.
This presentation will help participants understand the importance of the nominating committee for your PTA, how to elect them, and methods of organization so they have the tools to help them recruit qualified candidates for leadership positions.

This class has been organized by leaders in Region 6 but is open to all Washington State PTA leaders to attend.

Due to the winter weather and the likelihood of a delayed start and/or school cancellations, we have made the call to move our February GMM to an evening Zoom meeting.
All local PTA leaders are invited to attend our monthly membership meetings, typically held the first Thursday of the month during the school year. Meetings will mostly be during daytime hours, with occasional evening meeting times, and will be a mix of in-person and virtual Zoom meetings. At least one elected leader from each of our area PTA/PTSA units is expected to attend each meeting. Additional leaders are always welcomed.
In-person membership meetings will be held at the Lake Washington School District Resource Center in Redmond Town Center. The LWSD Resource Center address is: 16250 NE 74th St., Redmond WA 98052. Zoom meeting links for our online meetings will be available in the Weekly Waves newsletter that all local PTA leaders receive.
WSPTA has selected February 10-14, 2025, for when we will sharpen our advocacy for our Top 5 legislative issues. During this week, WSPTA will send action alerts to members who have signed up to help. Each action alert will provide an easily customizable message that the system will automatically forward to your legislators on your behalf. It is easy to do, only takes a few minutes, and helps boost our advocacy efforts. Your voice matters!

Your actions throughout this week will be quick and easy but will make a tremendous impact. It will be so easy that you can take action from home, while waiting for a coffee order, or sitting in your child’s pick-up line! We also encourage you to share your advocacy work on your personal and PTA social media accounts throughout the week using the hashtag #WSPTAOneVoice.
Our February 11, 2025, E-Prep Committee meeting was originally scheduled for Zoom, but has been changed to an in-person meeting in the Sammamish Room at the LWSD Resource Center (Redmond Town Center). The time remains the same, 10 am to noon. We’ll see you there!
Our Vision: Achieve a whole-community approach of emergency management, set forth by the Federal Emergency Management Association, as it relates to our school communities throughout the Lake Washington School District. The whole-community approach is a concept that emergency preparedness is a shared responsibility, and calls for the involvement of everyone in order to attain a secure, resilient community.
Our Mission: To provide training, networking and support to emergency preparedness chairs from each school in order to encourage the PTA management of supplies, preparedness education, community engagement and facilitation of drills through building a relationship with the school principal.
