PTA and the Law (WSPTA Training) @ Online on Zoom

This is the most important and useful class of them all, as it will prepare you and your fellow officers to run your PTA with an eye toward the important legal and fiscal requirements in running a nonprofit. PTA and the Law deals with state and federal rules and regulations relevant to running a charitable, tax-exempt, nonprofit corporation in the state of Washington, and will explain how these rules impact your PTA. PTA and the Law is a required class for at least one elected officer per PTA each year.

This WSPTA-approved training session will help all PTA/PTSA board members understand the basic responsibilities of their positions—and everyone else’s! We will review the basic elected PTA positions (president, secretary & treasurer), and we’ll also cover topics such as advocacy, fiduciary responsibility, membership and outreach. This training is ideal for anyone new to a local PTA board, as well as any board officer who could benefit from a comprehensive overview of the board’s responsibilities in the PTA realm.

This official training will be led by LWPTSA Council, and will count toward your 2024-2025 training requirement.

WSPTA Advocacy Roundtable: No on Initiatives I-2109 & I-2117 @ Online on Zoom

The WSPTA Board of Directors voted at its June meeting to oppose Initiatives 2109 and 2117, based on positions previously adopted by its members. Join us for a roundtable on October 8 from 7-8 pm to learn more about the initiatives and how they would negatively impact education funding. There will be opportunities to ask questions and learn more about how PTAs can take a position and share information on voting in November.

The 46th Annual WSPTA Legislative Assembly will take place October 26-27, 2024, in person at Seattle Pacific University. Delegates will discuss, debate, and vote on new issues and resolutions, including the adoption of WSPTA’s 2024-2026 Legislative Platform and Top Five Issues.

Negotiating Conflict (WSPTA Training) @ Online on Zoom

Participants will learn strategies for fostering positive and productive relationships with volunteers, board members and other adults who work with PTA in a variety of roles. It’s not always easy, but with some empathy, some careful listening and some strategies for when conflict arises, you can get the most from your PTA relationships.
