This WSPTA-approved training session will help all PTA/PTSA board members understand the basic responsibilities of their positions—and everyone else’s! We will review the basic elected PTA positions (president, secretary & treasurer), and we’ll also cover topics such as advocacy, fiduciary responsibility, membership and outreach. This training is ideal for anyone new to a local PTA board, as well as any board officer who could benefit from a comprehensive overview of the board’s responsibilities in the PTA realm.
This official training will be led by LWPTSA Council, and will count toward your 2024-2025 training requirement.

The role of the vice president is the most flexible and versatile on the board of directors. Vice presidents don’t just shadow the president; they are an essential link between the board of directors and the PTA’s volunteers and chairpeople. Get some tips and tricks to manage the role of vice president and get set up for success!
This is a WSPTA-approved training, ideal for vice presidents but open to any PTA officer, board member and/or program chair. LWPTSA Council will be leading this free virtual training, which will count toward the WSPTA training requirement for the 2024-25 year.

The financial management of the PTA is the responsibility of the entire board of directors. At this free, WSPTA-approved training, learn the basic financial skills to manage and track PTA funds, online accounts, legal obligations to maintain your tax-exempt status and other considerations. Recommended for all elected officers and board members.
This official training will be led by LWPTSA Council, and will count toward your 2024-2025 training requirement.

WSPTA will be remotely hosting the 4rd annual A.L.L. on August 23-24, 2024.
A.L.L. is now Autumn August Leadership Launch. This year’s virtual conference will focus on providing new leaders the training they need to launch a great school year for their PTA!
We’ll offer a mix of trainings and roundtables for leaders to connect. The trainings (except for PTA and the Law) will be recorded and available to view for weeks after the event. This year’s trainings will be geared toward leaders who are new to PTA or their position.
Don’t miss the chance to connect with folks after ALL on Sunday, August 25, at this year’s PTA Day at the Park.
Class and registration information is available here. Please contact events@wastatepta.org if you have questions.

From Washington State PTA:
One of the ways local PTAs can support their schools is by running a grant program. Whether granting money to teachers, to the school, or to the school district, we’ll show you the basics of a quality grant program. Unravel all the red tape and keep everything running smoothly!
At WSPTA’s annual meeting, membership voted to allow PTAs to use secured credit and debit cards to disburse funds. If your PTA is considering the move to these options, this is the roundtable for you. We will discuss how your PTA knows if it is ready for secured credit and/or debit cards and how to update your money-handling policies and procedures to keep your PTA financially safe. Join us for this discussion, and get your questions answered.
This roundtable is great for new, seasoned, local and council leaders.
Please register here.

This is the most important and useful class of them all, as it will prepare you and your fellow officers to run your PTA with an eye toward the important legal and fiscal requirements in running a nonprofit. PTA and the Law deals with state and federal rules and regulations relevant to running a charitable, tax-exempt, nonprofit corporation in the state of Washington, and will explain how these rules impact your PTA. PTA and the Law is a required class for at least one elected officer per PTA each year.
