Sign up up to get action alerts through the WSPTA Action Alert Network: You will get email alerts about the legislative session and links to quick, online actions you can take to support our priorities. This will be particularly active during Focus on Advocacy Week, which is THIS WEEK, Feb. 6–10.
The LWPTSA Sustainability Committee meets monthly and focuses on raising awareness around sustainable initiatives district-wide, sharing resources, and connecting with one another. Community members are always welcome.
The Sustainability Committee is made up of local chairs at schools across the district. The committee has worked on a range of issues, including food recovery, waste reduction, composting, green cleaning, no-idle zones, herbicide-free schools, and engaging and supporting students in their efforts to combat climate change and create a livable planet.
Local PTA leaders are invited to our Council virtual roundtable sessions. Today we will discuss treasurer questions. For maximum benefit, we encourage attendees to view the Treasurer Basics training video on WSPTA’s website before attending the roundtable. Find the WSPTA Leader Resources login and password in our past two Weekly Waves newsletters.
This is the most important and useful class of them all, as it will prepare you and your fellow officers to run your PTA with an eye toward the important legal and fiscal requirements in running a nonprofit. PTA and the Law deals with state and federal rules and regulations relevant to running a charitable, tax-exempt, nonprofit corporation in the state of Washington and will explain how these rules impact your PTA. PTA and the Law is a required class for at least one PTA officer each year.
Local PTA leaders are invited to our Council virtual roundtable sessions. Today we will discuss the resource guide on cultural/international night that Council recently published. For maximum benefit, we encourage attendees to review the resource guide before attending the roundtable. Find the Zoom link in our Feb. 13 Currents newsletter.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) at LWPTSA Council:
LWPTSA Council is committed to advocating for institutional and systemic changes that ensure equity, justice, respect and inclusion of all children. LWPTSA Council strives to be anti-discriminatory, inclusive, and to welcome all voices. We are seeking to learn from our community, and grow as individuals and as an organization.
During the 2022-2023 school year, DEI Committee meetings will be online via Zoom The Zoom links will be published in Council’s newsletter the week of the meeting, sent directly to committee participants, and added to the calendar listing the week of the meeting.
Join WSPTA for our first IN-PERSON Focus on Advocacy Day in years! WSPTA members are invited to join us in Olympia to advocate for children and schools with elected officials.
Gather in the Columbia Room to network and hear speakers from the WSPTA’s Advocacy Committee, State Board of Education, OSPI and Governor Inslee’s office. We will also be offering docent-led tours of the Capitol grounds.
We are encouraging members to schedule meetings with their legislators this day (even if you need to schedule remote meetings). It is important to reach out to legislators as soon as possible, so here is a resource to help you with scheduling your meetings.
More details and information can be found on the Focus on Advocacy webpage and will be included in WSPTA newsletters.
