Sustainability Committee Meeting — April 7
Please join us in person for the upcoming Sustainability Committee meeting! We encourage each PTA to send a representative focused on sustainability or advocacy. We also welcome all who are interested in sustainability efforts across LWSD to join us.
WHEN: Tuesday, April 7 from 10-11 am
WHERE: LWSD Resource Center (map)
The topic of our upcoming meeting will be Transportation with guest speakers from City of Redmond & City of Kirkland’s Anti Idle Campaign. Do you have a transportation project you’d like to share? We’d love to hear about it! If you have a success story or highlight from last school year, we’d love for you to share it during the meeting!
Questions? Email Council’s Sustainability Chair, Chayanika Das, at sustainability@LWPTSA.net.
DEIB Workshop with Ilsa Govan — April 8
Acting on Teachable Moments: Talking with Children about Current Events
*Collaboration with Issaquah PTSA*
When events such as ICE raids, wars, and protests occur locally or nationally, children often react with questions, fears, and misunderstandings. Ignoring these moments can unintentionally reinforce silence, misinformation, or othering. This workshop supports families and those who work with children in responding with intention, care, and clarity in the midst of tensions.
Participants explore how to create nonjudgmental spaces where young people of different ages can process feelings, ask questions, and build understanding without shame or blame. Families learn practical strategies to develop emotional vocabulary, foster empathy and belonging, examine stereotypes, offer reassurance, and support a sense of agency. The session emphasizes that adults do not need to have all the answers—only the willingness to stay present, curious, and grounded in core values that support dignity, love, and shared responsibility.
WHEN: Wednesday, April 8 from 11-12:30 pm
WHERE: Zoom — Register
Questions? Please reach out to LWPTSA Council DEIB Chair Morgan Sampson at Diversity@LWPTSA.net.
Listening Session — April 8
Current PTSA Boards! Council is hosting another listening session to gather some information about the needs of local presidents and their school communities. We want to get a better understanding of your needs and wants from Council, the issues you are facing at your schools, how we can support you best as leaders, and/or any ideas that you might have. Remember, PTA really stands for Parents who Talk A lot, so please join us for a chat! Some of our latest changes were inspired by the suggestions from these sessions (here’s looking at you, TL; DR).
WHEN: Wednesday, April 8, 7-8 pm
WHERE: Zoom — Register
Please feel free to email us at any point with questions, suggestions, or ways that we can support you. Email president@lwptsa.net
