LWPTSA Council was proud to present one of two You Rock! awards at our April 2026 membership meeting to Eastlake High School PTSA for the outstanding work of their Sustainability Committee!
Eastlake PTSA’s Sustainability Committee chair, Jeannette Illsley, has been working tirelessly for over a year to incorporate a new system for recycling and compost in the school cafeteria. She has helped build frames for trash and recycle stations and worked directly with the kitchen staff to transition to using metal utensils (getting rid of single-use plastic forks, spoons, and knives) and reusable salad containers.
To ensure the student body was on board and educated on the new district-wide cafeteria initiative, the committee created a video titled “Green Your Routine” to share throughout the school. The video showed students exactly how easy it is to sort their reusable trays and silverware.
Jeannette has put an immense amount of personal time into this project, and the committee executed this initiative 100% independently. If the program continues to be successful at Eastlake, they hope to share their model with other schools so they can continue to improve their sustainability district-wide.
