Welcome to the 2026-27 school year! We were so excited to see so many of you in attendance at our annual Membership Meeting on September 3rd — we had 35 (out of 44) PTAs send leaders from their local boards! Attendees got to sit with their AVP area and hopefully had the chance to network with their AVP and/or neighboring PTA leaders.
We presented a full 1.5 hours-worth of information which included:
- Introductory presentations from our Partners: LWSD, LW School Board and LWSF
- An intro and basics of Council’s role and what to expect during our meetings
- Membership approvals of our standing rules, mission & goals, budget, and end-of-year financial review.
- Asking leaders to go back to their boards to discuss the 3 November Ballot initiatives which WSPTA has issued opposition statements. Council plans to bring those to a vote at our Oct 1st GMM.
- Encouraging all our local PTAs to send voting delegates to Legislative Assembly and collecting feedback from your community on which issues are important to them.
- Reminding everyone of our new, monthly newsletter Splash!
A few highlights worth mentioning:
- Sharing our hopes of focusing on addressing volunteer/leader burnout and empowering student voices this year.
- Givebacks now allows Council to accept local PTA fees so your Treasurer should log in to pay those September dues/fees and download a copy of the invoice — no more emailing of invoices!
- Council will be hosting a Reflections Kick-off for PTA leaders AND our first Roundtable (office hours but focused on a particular topic with time for Q&A). Visit our Calendar to see all the things happening in September!
