The state of Washington continues to fall short of its paramount, constitutional duty to fully fund basic K-12 education, which has forced:
- School closures
- Increased class sizes
- Program cuts
- Reduced class periods
- Staffing cuts
- Severe shortfalls in special education and transportation
TOWN HALL: SCHOOL FUNDING CRISIS

Please come stand with PTAs, school district leaders and teachers from Bellevue, Mercer Island, Lake Washington, Issaquah and Renton to learn more and to ask our legislators to fully fund education.

LWPTSA Council’s Special Education Group (SEG) aims to connect and support families in the LWSD community with students who receive special services through an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), 504 Accommodations Plan, or Individualized Health Plan (IHP). We host monthly meetings that start with time for families to connect with one another, followed by a formal presentation on topics relevant to the SEG community and an opportunity for member questions and input. We also support families and local PTA special education chairs through a lending library, information about resources available in our community, and updates on news relevant to the special education community.

Everyone in the LWSD community is invited to join us for our February Lunch & Learn, where we will welcome Dr. Shannon Hitch,
LWSD Executive Director of Special Services, to discuss special education in our schools. Where can families find the most current information and prepare their children to get the most out of the special services our schools offer? Bring your questions and concerns, and we’ll see you on Feb. 20!
LWPTSA Council’s Lunch & Learn series consists of short presentations and Q&A on topics of interest to our school community, from noon – 1 pm on select Thursdays online via Zoom. Grab your lunch, log on, and learn with us! Event links will be shared on our website calendar, social media and newsletters close to the event dates. Topics and featured speakers are subject to change and will be updated as they are finalized.
