Council Award Categories

Each winter, Lake Washington PTSA Council presents awards to outstanding volunteers, advocates, leaders and organizations from across the Lake Washington School District community. Our awards committee evaluates the nominations and selects winners to be honored at our annual LWPTSA Council Founders’ Day Luncheon.

Everyone—not only PTA leaders—is invited to submit award nominations for the following award categories:

Community Service Award

The Community Service Award is given to someone in the community who works on behalf of all children and youth and promotes high standards in education. This person believes in, practices, and encourages community involvement and service. [Previous recipients]

Community Outreach Award

The Community Outreach Award recognizes a community group, business or partnership contributing to and affecting the students in the Lake Washington School District, not limiting its outreach to a single local school community. This group or organization has a long-term commitment to the health and welfare of our students by offering outreach support, such as by monetary funding, product donations or services. Certificate of Special Service

Certificates of Special Service are given to individuals who have done an outstanding job in their position, project or area for LWPTSA Council. [Previous recipients]

Golden Acorn

A Golden Acorn Award is presented to an individual who has given outstanding service to all children in the school community, not just an individual who has donated time to help in their child’s classroom, or a staff member who is doing a good job. It is to recognize extraordinary volunteer service “above and beyond” a particular job description. [Previous recipients]

Outstanding Educator Award

The Outstanding Educator Award is presented to an individual who goes beyond the normal expectations of their job to make the learning environment fun, beneficial and challenging. An educator may be defined as a teacher, assistant, custodian, bus driver, administrator or community member. [Previous recipients]

Outstanding Advocate Award

The Outstanding Advocate Award recognizes and honors individuals for continued and dedicated service to all children, and a demonstrated commitment to help create strong policies relating to the health, welfare, safety, and education of children and youth. [Previous recipients]

Outstanding Service Award

The Outstanding Service Award, the highest honor bestowed by the Washington State PTA, is presented to an individual who may have already been honored and who has continued to give extraordinary volunteer service to children. The recipient works for children beyond the bounds of a job, PTA or specific school community, and is concerned with all children and willing to work to help them achieve their potential. Honorary Life Membership Award

An Honorary Life Membership Award is presented to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the growth, development and sustainability of PTA; and has shown extraordinary commitment to the PTA’s vision and mission. Note: Honorary Life Membership Award recipients do not receive a free membership in the PTA that gives the award; recipients of this award need to continue to purchase their own PTA membership annually.
