Your Name Would Look Great on Our ’24-’25 Leader Roster

Our LWPTSA Council team is heading into fall with a fantastic group of board members and committee chairs — but we still have openings to fill. Are you up for a new kind of PTA volunteer experience?

Seeking Area Vice Presidents (4)

LWPTSA Council is actively seeking four Area Vice Presidents (AVPs) to join the board of directors.

What does the “Area” in AVP mean? To distribute the work, Council groups our 44 local PTAs and PTSAs into 8 different “areas,” each named for a different middle school (and their associated feeder patterns, roughly speaking). Each AVP is responsible for serving as a liaison between their assigned area‘s PTAs and the Council board. To be an AVP, you do NOT need to reside in that “area.”

Be Everyone’s Hero as Our Membership Chair

It’s a new world here in PTA, as all Washington state PTAs—including councils—have transitioned to using Givebacks, a new membership tool introduced by WSPTA this past summer. You do not need to be a Givebacks pro to fill this role, you just need to have a knack for finding answers (including asking Givebacks or WSPTA for support, if needed).

As LWPTSA Council’s Membership Chair, you’ll:

  • Work with the Council board to set our membership goal for the year and report progress to local PTAs throughout the year.
  • Serve as a voting member of the LWPTSA Council board, and attend board meetings.
  • Assist with Givebacks.
  • Identify problems (zero or exceedingly low membership numbers) and work with local presidents and membership chairs to find ways to correct.
  • Communicate WSPTA membership agenda and promotions, including membership competitions, to local PTAs. Encourage new and innovative membership strategies.
  • Track and report on achievements, such as WSPTA membership growth/achievement awards.
  • Share membership tips and celebrate highlights on Council’s media platforms.

The role of Membership Chair at the council level generally requires less work than at the local level. Questions? Please email LWPTSA Council President Kristen Dorwin, President@LWPTSA.net.

Help Lead Our Special Education Group

Special Education Group (SEG) Co-Chair — The SEG Chairs facilitate the Special Education Group, which aims to connect and support families in the LWSD community with students who receive special services through an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), 504 Accommodations Plan or Individualized Health Plan (IHP).

SEG Chairs host monthly meetings that start with time for families to connect with one another, followed by a formal presentation on topics relevant to the SEG community and an opportunity for member questions and input. The SEG Chairs also serve to support families and local PTA special education chairs through resource-sharing. To hear more about this opportunity, please email LWPTSA Council President Kristen Dorwin at President@LWPTSA.net.

Your Seat Awaits You as Our Family Education Chair

The Family Education Chair (or Co-Chairs), working with the support and supervision of our Family And Community Engagement (FACE) VP, facilitates Council’s family education programs and endeavors. This includes our yearly Family Education Grant program for local PTAs, as well as collaborating with LWSD and other Council-approved organizations to identify opportunities for family education events (speakers, workshops, outreach).

The Family Ed Chair is not a board member, and is not required to attend monthly board meetings. If you’re interested in learning more about this fun opportunity, please reach out to LWPTSA Council FACE VP Danish Majeed at FACE@LWPTSA.net.
