Advocacy Skills in the Education System: A Powerful First Step

LWPTSA Council Advocacy Skills in the Education SystemThe launch of LWPTSA Council’s newly rebranded initiative, “Advocacy Skills in the Education System” (formerly the Advocacy Committee) was a resounding success! In partnership with the LWSD Board of Directors, our inaugural session on Jan. 27 laid a strong foundation for empowering parents, educators and community members to become more effective advocates for students.

Key Takeaways From the Event

Understanding Advocacy: From the classroom to the Capitol, we explored how advocacy at various levels—school, district, city, state and federal—can drive real, lasting change.

Personal Passion in Action: Attendees reflected on their own experiences and motivations, demonstrating how personal stories can fuel impactful advocacy.

Practical Strategies for Success: Our guest speakers provided actionable steps—from engaging school boards and city leaders to influencing policy changes—equipping attendees with the tools to navigate advocacy channels effectively.

A Special Thanks to Our Speakers

We were honored to hear from Lindsey Yocum (LWSD School Board Director) and Amy Falcone (Kirkland City Councilmember), who shared their powerful advocacy journeys and offered invaluable insights on transforming passion into meaningful action.

What’s Next?

We’re thrilled to announce that this is just the beginning! We will be hosting five more sessions with Lindsey and Amy, each diving into exciting and critical topics that will further equip our community with the skills and knowledge needed to advocate effectively.
