It’s a wrap on LWPTSA Council’s first year of the College Essay Workshop! This free program has roots at Lake Washington High School, where it began as an in-person offering in 2015. Upon joining the LWPTSA Council family this past fall and going virtual, the College Essay Workshop expanded its reach to high school students throughout the Lake Washington School District.
Under the guidance of experienced program co-chairs Judy Shedd and Jonathan Heuer, the CEW and its roster of 27 volunteer essay coaches achieved the following impressive numbers in its inaugural 2024-25 LWPTSA Council year:
- 317 total appointments scheduled! That includes:
- 282 face-to-face meetings (both virtual and in person)
- 35 “CEW Offline” consultations via email
Although the program launch was not without its wrinkles—including several no-shows and a few cancelations—most of the workshop’s volunteer coaches have indicated they’ll be back next year to help another cohort of college-bound LWSD students optimize their essays.
We are proud to house the College Essay Workshop under the LWPTSA Council program umbrella, and we look forward to welcoming a new graduating class in the fall!
