Your Advocacy Plan: Turn Awareness into Action

1. Champion Safe Storage Awareness

  • Host a “Secure Our Schools” webinar or partner with local law enforcement to distribute free gun locks.
  • Share impactful statistics and safe storage practices through your PTA newsletter or social media.

2. Advocate for Mental Health Resources

  • Collaborate with local therapists or school counselors to provide mental health workshops for parents and students.
  • Encourage your school to display 988 Lifeline resources prominently on campus and online.

3. Push for Legislative Change

  • Organize a “Write to Your Legislators” campaign supporting gun safety laws and expanded funding for mental health in schools.
  • Set up an advocacy table at your next PTA meeting with sample letters and talking points.

4. Empower Student Voices

  • Host a Youth Forum on Safety & Mental Health, giving students a platform to share concerns and ideas.
  • Launch a peer-led mentoring program to encourage open discussions about mental health and emotional support.

5. Engage Your Community

  • Partner with community organizations to host a Gun Safety & Suicide Prevention Resource Fair.
  • Provide a digital toolkit with resources for families, including safety guides, mental health apps, and advocacy templates.

Why It Matters

Gun violence and suicide aren’t abstract issues—they affect real families in our schools and communities every day. Together, we can drive change by educating families, engaging decision-makers, and empowering every voice to make an impact.
